Why Charlotte Attics Cook

Charlotte summers are long, hot, and humid, and your attic takes the worst of it. On a 90-degree day, an under-ventilated attic can hit 130, 140, sometimes higher. That heat does two things, neither of them good. It bakes the shingles from underneath, aging them years faster than the manufacturer ever intended, which is how a “30-year” roof quietly gives up at 18. And it loads your air conditioning, because that superheated attic is sitting right on top of the rooms you live in.

Too much exhaust and not enough intake, and the system starts pulling air from wherever it can find it, including your conditioned living space, which is worse than no ventilation at all. We see ridge vents installed over painted-shut or nonexistent soffit vents all the time. It looks like ventilation. It is not one. When we inspect, we check both ends before we recommend a thing.
